SOKO: Belgrade - Novi Sad - Subotica
For business trips in the north of Serbia, the SOKO fast train is what matters. It runs on the high-speed line from Belgrade Centre (Prokop) via Tošin bunar, Petrovaradin, the TPS Novi Sad stop, Vrbas and Bačka Topola to Subotica, every two hours from early morning until late evening. The full timetable is on the SOKO train page.
- The SOKO takes about 47 minutes to TPS Novi Sad, about 39 minutes to Petrovaradin and about 1 hour 34 minutes to Subotica.
- Inter Regio trains on the same line take a little longer (about 51 minutes to TPS Novi Sad, about 1 hour 50 minutes to Subotica) and make more stops.
- A SOKO ticket always includes a reserved seat. Popular departures sell out, so buy as soon as you know your time, especially for Fridays, Sundays and the days before public holidays.
Live departures: Belgrade - Novi Sad and Belgrade - Subotica. Coming back: Novi Sad - Belgrade and Subotica - Belgrade.
Higher or lower class
The SOKO has two classes. Both have air conditioning and USB chargers, while the higher class has wider seats, more space and more quiet, which you notice when you work on a laptop or read papers for a meeting. On the 47 minutes to Novi Sad the difference is a matter of comfort; on the way to Subotica many find it worth it. More on classes and reservations in our SOKO train guide.
If you have a video call on board or need to send large files, count on your own mobile data. If the SOKO is sold out for your time, Regio trains are slower but need no reservation.
Where the SOKO stops in Novi Sad
Since 12 October 2026 trains from Belgrade stop in Novi Sad at the TPS Novi Sad stop, not at the old main station. It is on Rumenački put by the roundabout, about 4 km north-west of the centre. Since 7 October 2026 city bus line 4 (Liman 4 - centar - Železnička stanica) runs to it, and lines 5, 14, 41, 42 and 43 also call.
Since 19 October 2026 the SOKO stops at Petrovaradin again, on the right bank of the Danube below the fortress, where city buses cross the Varadin bridge into central Novi Sad. Check on a map which stop is closer to your meeting. More in our Novi Sad station guide.
Belgrade to Niš and Leskovac
Trains to Niš run via Lapovo and take about 5.5 to 6.5 hours, with only a few departures a day. That is plenty of time to work, but for a meeting check the return on the same day too: arriving the day before is sometimes more practical. Departures: Belgrade - Niš.
For Leskovac, change at Niš. The Niš - Leskovac line reopened on 9 October 2026 after reconstruction, with six Regio trains each way taking 59 minutes. Departures: Niš - Leskovac.

From Prokop to the city and the airport
Fast trains leave from Belgrade Centre (Prokop). Public transport in Belgrade has been free since 1 January 2025: bus 36 runs to Slavija, trolleybuses 40 and 41 stop on the upper level by the station, and BG Voz takes about five minutes from the underground platforms to Vukov spomenik. More in our Belgrade Centre station guide.
From the airport, the easiest way to Prokop is minibus A1 to Slavija, then bus 36; there is also city bus 72 and a taxi. There is no airport train yet: the new line from Prokop via the airport is being built and is expected to open in spring 2027. All the options are in our airport to Prokop guide.
