2026 timetable in both directions
Srbija Voz currently lists two practical options for the Montenegrin coast in the second half of September. The Lovćen night connection remains after the seasonal day train finishes.
- 1131 Tara to Bar: Subotica 08:04, Petrovaradin 08:56/08:58, Belgrade Centre 09:37/09:45, Bar 21:10. The final trip is on 30 September 2026, with an organised change at Bijelo Polje.
- 1130 Tara from Bar: Bar 09:00, Belgrade Centre 20:17/20:22, Petrovaradin 21:01/21:03, Subotica 21:55. The final trip is on 1 October.
- 433 Lovćen to Bar: Zemun 19:35, Belgrade Centre 19:42/19:54, Bar 06:54. See every stop for train 433.

Buying online: the ticket you must print
International tickets for trains 433/432 and 1131/1130 can now be bought on the Srbija Voz website and app. The presentation rule depends on the service:
- Seat: show the ticket and reservation in the app or carry an A4 printout.
- Couchette, sleeper or vehicle transport: the online ticket must be printed. The operator warns that a passenger without the printout is treated as travelling without a valid ticket.
- The 5% online discount applies to domestic, not international tickets.
Where to board: Zemun or Belgrade Centre?
Night train 433 starts at Zemun at 19:35, then calls at Belgrade Centre (Prokop), departing at 19:54. If you are not taking a vehicle, board at the station printed on your ticket.
Vehicles are loaded at Zemun. The official one-way motorail charge is €40, the maximum vehicle height is 1.55 m, and the vehicle must be presented no later than two hours before departure.

Choose the day train for the scenery
Tara lets you see the most dramatic Montenegrin section in daylight. Its two limitations are the seasonal operating window and the organised change of trains at Bijelo Polje.
Choose the night train for convenience
Lovćen leaves in the evening and arrives early the next morning. A couchette or sleeper lets you rest through much of the trip, although the finest mountain scenery may pass in darkness depending on the time of year.
Border documents
The train crosses an international border between Serbia and Montenegro. Carry a valid passport, or an identity card only if the entry rules for your nationality allow it. Checks take place on board or during border-station stops, so keep your document within reach, especially on the night train.
Why the Bar railway is remarkable
The line was ceremonially opened on 28 May 1976. Serbian Railways sources list 254 tunnels and 234 bridges along the route. Its best-known structure is the Mala Rijeka viaduct, about 499 metres long, with the rails roughly 200 metres above the water.
Southbound, the grandest landscapes unfold from northern Montenegro towards Kolašin and Podgorica, through the Morača Canyon and across Mala Rijeka. The final approach follows Lake Skadar before reaching the Adriatic coast.
What to pack and what to expect
- Carry water and food; do not plan the journey around guaranteed onboard catering.
- Bring a power bank because a working socket is not guaranteed at every seat or berth.
- For the night train, pack layers, earplugs and a small bag with everything you need in the compartment.
- Arrive early, particularly if Belgrade Centre is unfamiliar or you are loading a vehicle at Zemun.
- Delays are possible on this long, largely single-track route; leave a buffer before onward connections.

Does the Belgrade - Bar night train run after 30 September 2026?
Yes. The Lovćen night train 433/432 remains in the timetable; 30 September southbound and 1 October northbound mark the end of its longer summer formation. The seasonal Tara day train 1131 makes its final southbound trip on 30 September, while 1130 leaves Bar for the last time on 1 October.
How long does the train from Belgrade to Bar take?
In the published timetable, night train 433 leaves Belgrade Centre at 19:54 and reaches Bar at 06:54. Seasonal day train 1131 leaves at 09:45 and arrives at 21:10. Scheduled border stops are included, but operational delays can extend the journey.
How much is a Belgrade - Bar train ticket?
The official one-way Zemun - Bar fare is €23.80 in second class or €35.60 in first class, plus a €3 seat reservation. Couchette supplements are €8 for a six-berth or €12 for a four-berth compartment; sleeper supplements are €16, €24 or €48, depending on occupancy.
Can I show a sleeper ticket on my phone?
No. Srbija Voz says tickets bought online for couchettes, sleeper cars or vehicle transport must be printed. A ticket with a seat reservation may be shown in the app or carried as an A4 printout.
